Just seen today that Slackware 12.0 is out and has a 2.6 kernel (and therefore better wireless support for laptops......) That's right, the first 2.6(.21.5) based Slackware release is ready for download! We think you'll enjoy the latest kernel, KDE 3.5.7, XFce 4.4.1, HAL automounting for desktop use...

I realised that I was suffering from the old Linux 1024 cylinder problem :? As soon as I moved the partition nearer the start of the disk it worked fine. I am using the sata.i image which is a 2.4 kernel on Slackware 11.0. I have yet to find a straight forward 2.4 to 2.6 migration tutorial for Slack...

Many thanks for the reply Mark, I did have an interview with PGS as a trainee navigator, they offered me the job, but when it came to sorting the contract with head office they made the excuse that they couldn't employ me because i don't have a degree!!
